Stephen Ibaraki, DFNPA, CNP, FCIPS, ISP, ITCP/IP3P, MVP joined the board of the NPA in 2004 and was the inaugural recipient of the NPA Career Achievement Award for Professionalism, the global industry’s highest honour in 2002. He was awarded as a founding distinguished fellow in 2005. In 2005, Stephen served a 4-year term as Vice-Chair and in 2005 to January 2010 served as publisher and managing editor of the NPA Journal. Stephen continues to serve as a director on the editorial board of the NPA Journal, director on the certification council, director on the college of distinguished fellows, and board director of the NPA. His interviews with industry leaders appear on the NPA web site and in every issue of the NPA Journal.
Working with technology since 1965, he is a Hall of Fame Inductee and multiple Lifetime Achievement Award recipient. As the most awarded industry analyst, a few of his more than 100 international recognitions, roles, awards for a lifetime of outstanding contributions are profiled by the Canadian Information Processing Society (CIPS), where he is a founding fellow. (CIPS is the official representative for Canada to the UN-Founded International Federation for Information Processing [IFIP], the UNESCO consultative body for IT.) Upon receiving his lifetime Advanced Technology Award in 2008, Premier Gordon Campbell thanked him for his "commitment to industry excellence."

As a widely recognized IT and business professional, Stephen was named Most Valuable Professional (MVP) for “technology’s best and brightest” by Microsoft in Windows Live Research and Development in 2009 (the only one globally) and he has received the MVP award in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010 including an inaugural top 5 spotlight at the global MVP summit in 2007 and an inaugural two of the top 7 blogger positions (the only one worldwide) for 2 different blog platforms at the global MVP summit in 2008. Due to his unique MVP standing, in 2008-2009, Stephen was invited to take on the Chief Editor role for Microsoft YouShapeIT/Technet where he featured interviews with MVPs for their roles as top-ranking authorities. Moreover, due to his reputation, he is a featured keynote speaker in the EU, U.S., and Canada.
He is also a multiple award-winning past senior educator (business and technology), academic program head (business, technology, research); multi-company founder/entrepreneur; and official 3rd-party senior industry advisor/analyst to Microsoft Canada and Microsoft Redmond.

His writing endeavours have led him to become: a top-ranked blogger as co-host of the IT Manager Connection Blog, the largest online IT management community; chief editor or publisher of IT journals including Microsoft's YouShapeIT; publisher and managing editor of the Network Professional Association's (NPA) Journal, where he also serves as NPA past vice-chair and current board director, certification board director, editorial board director, and college of distinguished fellows director. Writing since the 1970s’, his weekly podcasts interviews with top scientists, futurists, business leaders, technologists have an audience reach of more than 60 million in over 100 countries.

He plays an important role in many national and international boards including: 2010 board appointment to the Vine Group, an international investment and merchant banking, venture capital, strategic advisory group; founding chairman (2008/9) of the global board of the Global IT Community Association (GITCA) the world's largest alliance of IT organizations representing several million business and IT members, where he still serves as board director (2009-present) while immediate past chairman; chairman of the iGEN Knowledge Solutions board (an international business solutions, strategic advisory and product development group); past national board director, vice-president, chairman, and president (2005-2008) of the National Board of CIPS (Canadian Information Processing Society), where he is currently advisor (2008-present) to the Office of the Executive Council (OEC) as past president; chief business development officer, business plan co-leader/author (2009) and invited international consultant to the UN-founded IFIP IP3 initiative (2007-present); business plan author and chief strategy and alliance officer (2005-present) for ChinaValue, holding the number one position in professional social network services, professional social media, and business intelligence/market research in Asia, reaching out to over 60 million business and IT professionals; board director for Computer for Success; and much more.

He is also an active member of the IT community: a judge at the MSDN Code Awards and Ignite Awards and invited expert to the Ignite Your Career Webcasts; member of the IEEE-CS; invited member of the ACM (PD committee, 2010 chair Intel ISEF committee and 2010 chief ACM special awards judge at the world's largest, International Science and Engineering Fair or ISEF); invited member Microsoft Global IT Advisory Council; invited member Gerson Lehrman Group (past Gerson Lehrman Scholar, a distinction for the top advisors in industry worldwide); invited member GuidePoint Global (formerly Society of Industry Leaders Vista Research Group (unit of Standard & Poor); past member 2006/7/8 Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD).
Because of his invaluable experience, he is a sought out advisor or panellist for McKinsey, the renowned business strategy group; the UN-founded International Federation for Information Processing's (IFIP) International Professional Practice Partnership (IP3) which implemented a global certification and professionalism program in 2009; the National Council of IT Deans, where his opening keynote at their summit in the past two years has garnered a unique 100 per cent response rating; Cisco Academy Academic Conferences, where his opening keynotes throughout the year received a unique 100% rating; keynote at the Strategic Architecture Forum for architects from every sector, with a 97.5% rating; the Prithvi Institute, India where he serves on their advisory board; past five years on the All-Star advisory panel for Canadian Business Magazine's annual All-Star Executive search awarding the top executives in the best performing corporations; advisory committee SeCTor, North America’s largest security conference focused on the black arts; 2010 appointment to the advisory board of the Neil Squire Society, the leading organization innovating technologies and services for people with disabilities; and various fortune 500 corporations.
