Careers: Interviews
Entering the IT Field
Our regular interviewer, Stephen
Ibaraki, I.S.P., likes to know how and why people in
the IT industry chose IT as a career. So, he asked
Cindy Robinson, a writer and editor for "Htc" HiTech
Career Journal, why she entered the technology field
as an editor and writer. Here is what she had to
say:
"I am a journalist who had the good fortune to join
a company focused on information technology. It's
been a learning process: following industry events
in the media, interviewing key players, conducting
research on the Internet, reading technology
magazines; subscribing to news groups, and attending
trade shows and conferences.
"Three years ago when I started writing on IT, there
were very few women working in the industry. Since
then, initiatives by government, educational
institutions and corporations have been undertaken
to encourage more women to consider a career in IT.
I would encourage anyone, man or woman, to look at
the many excellent career opportunities that exist
in this industry.
"I would also recommend people interested in
learning more about careers in IT visit The Software
Human Resources Council web site at
http://www.shrc.ca/resources/index.html. It is
an excellent resources for industry news, education
and training opportunities, labour market
information and links to other related sites." |
